Have you notice how with everything to do with hosting seems to have become 'unlimited'? We not have 'unlimited space', unlimited domains' and now 'unlimited bandwidth hosting'!
Yet they are still able to offer you everything at such a lot price! If you know anything about the price of servers, you will understand how while it is a good idea in theory, unlimited bandwidth and space hosting doesn't really work in reality - it is much too costly.
So how are hosts able to offer unlimited hosting to all their clients and still turn a profit.
The answer comes in a few truths about webhosting.
The Majority Of Hosting Clients Use Barely Any Stats The average hosting client has one small website that barely get's any traffic, so while they have unlimited space and bandwidth - they are using only a minute portion of it. And because of the price of the hosting - they are still happy!
Web hosts know that the majority of website owners are an optimistic bunch who think that their websites are going to get millions of visitors and need a absolute bucket load of space - but they rarely do!
Unlimited Bandwidth Hosting Is Not Really Unlimited What a lot of hosts don't want you to know is that they actually do have limits on their 'unlimited hosting'.
They structure this by having an excessive use clause that goes something like this:
4(b) XXX XXXX reserves the right to immediately suspend or terminate SERVICES to a Subscriber generating excessive bandwidth to the server(s), or using excessive server resources.
So what this means is that if you get unlimited bandwidth hosting and your website becomes to popular and you start using too much of your 'unlimited' supply of bandwidth - they can terminate your account.
Something doesn't sound right to me!
So in reality unlimited bandwidth hosting really just means that you can use as much space and bandwidth as you like until your host starts to think that you are using up to many of their resources - whatever that means!
So does that mean that we shouldn't choose an unlimited account? Considering that almost all of the major web hosts are now promoting unlimited accounts, you really just have to choose one of them - or grab a VPS. And with most of the major hosts having comparative offers it usually just comes down to personal preference.
